Juventus keen on shock Chelsea deal as Blues ready to sign up impressive Brazilian Emerson
Reports have claimed Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri is lining up an ambitious move for Chelsea defender Emerson.
Chelsea signed the former Santos star for £17.6million in January 2018, as he was signed by the Blues as a back-up option for Marcos Alonso, who proved many people wrong by becoming one of the best left-backs in the country.
But Emerson has rejuvenated himself at Chelsea and the defender is now above Alonso in the pecking order after making 27-appearances under the guidance of Maurizio Zarri last season and impressing new boss Frank Lampard in the early goings of the new season.
Chelsea are prepared to offer left-back Emerson a new contract, according to recent reportse, as Chelsea want to extend the players current contract, which currently runs out in 2022.
‘The Italy international has impressed throughout the first few weeks of the campaign and has replaced Marcos Alonso as first choice left-back in Frank Lampard’s side,’ states the report on the TalkSport website
‘He has started five of Chelsea’s six Premier League matches this term, but was absent for the games with Wolves and Valencia after picking up a thigh injury on international duty.
‘This is a far cry from last season, in which Emerson, who arrived from Roma in January 2018, only played 10 Premier League matches under Maurizio Sarri.’
But according to Italian Publication Calciomercato, Sarri will press for a move for his former player, though, after having to deploy Blaise Matuidi as emergency left-back earlier this season with Sandro out injured.
The veteran boss also has the option of former Manchester City full-back Danilo, but wants a more natural left-sided defender to compete with Sandro for a place in the starting XI.
Top clubs have more than one TOP player in a single position and now that Emerson has stepped up his game, Alonso needs to do the same if he seriously wants to get back into the first team squad on a weekly basis.
There are many out there that believed that Emerson could have been sold during the summer window, that was not the case, and he is now proving to be a real asset to Lampard, and if the reports are true and Chelsea are set to hand him a nice big new contract, it is a contract that he fully deserves.
Many will just be hoping that his performances do not drop off after he agrees a new deal.
