Seven years of happines! £71 million man Kepa sends message to Chelsea fans after summer move

New Chelsea signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has revealed his delight at officially becoming a Blue for the next seven years.

The highly-rated 23-year old Spaniard arrives at Stamford Bridge as part of a record deal for a goalkeeper, as the Blues had to splash out £71 million to acquire his services.

He is set to become the immediate successor to Thibaut Courtois, who ended months of speculation and joined Spanish giants Real Madrid on transfer deadline day.

And Kepa expressed his delight at becoming a Chelsea player.

‘I’m incredibly happy to be here, this is a great challenge for me and it means a lot in my career and personal life,’ he said on the Chelsea website.

‘It’s a great step forward in my career, and very brave of the club to take me in. In terms of the price, it’s something I don’t think about. I just want to be myself, the same as I’ve always been, and try to give my best for the club.

‘I came back from my holiday on 23 July and a few days into my training I knew about Chelsea’s interest in me. There had been prior offers but Athletic are a club that doesn’t usually take an interest in these transfers. I’ve been aware of the interest Chelsea had for a few weeks now.’

It is clear the young man has bags of potential to one day become a world class stopper, but to pay £71 million for his services is just crazy money.

Courtois has left for half of that and is one of the best in world football, so Blues fans will be hoping he can fill the void left by the Belgian.
