Barella offer, Pochettino message, Militao warning, De Ligt told to sign for Red Devils in Liverpool, Man United Tuesday news and gossip
Here is the daily roundup of news, gossip and transfer speculation from Manchester United and Liverpool.
Reports have claimed Manchester United have made an offer to sign Chelsea target Nicolo Barella from Cagliari.
The 21-year-old Italy international, who is under contract at the Serie A side until 2022, has been linked with Chelsea in recent days as Maurizio Sarri seeks a replacement for Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas is heading to Monaco and Sarri has already admitted that he may need a signing this month, as the Spaniard will leave him with only five midfielders.
And Barella, who is regarded as an outstanding talent, has become a top transfer target after another impressive start to the new season, in which his performances has attracted interest from a whole host of big clubs.
But according to Italian publication Correire dello Sport, United have made a non-negotiable £30m offer to the Italian side in an attempt to seal the deal ahead of Chelsea.
However, it is believed Cagliari have rejected the offer by United as they are seeking a fee closer to the £45 million mark to even open up talks.
Football expert Andy Brassell has told both Liverpool and Manchester United that Porto defender Eder Militao would be an expensive buy this January.
The Brazilian only joined Porto last summer but has excelled in the Super League and his performances have caught the attentions of both United and Liverpool.
Despite having the best defensive record in the Premier League, Liverpool are short on depth at the back and one or two serious injuries would leave them in big issues and not the right cover.
United on the other-hand need to improve the back-line for the sake of their season, they have not been good enough over the past few months and although they have had a good run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, their problems have not been sorted.
But Brassell reckons a mega deal for the 20-year-old is premature at this stage, especially as he has a big price tag.
“Militao, the Brazilian. He’s very inexperienced in the European game but has taken to it very quick,” he told talkSPORT.
“This is an expensive deal in January.
“Porto are protected by a very high release clause.
“That’s not out of reach for Premier League clubs but £60m for a guy who has played 20 games in Europe?
“He has played very well but Porto have a back-up plan with Pepe.
“It looks like either Monaco or Porto for Pepe.”
Maurizio Pochettino has told both Manchester United and Tottenham that he may finish his career at Spurs.
Pochettino, who is regarded as one of the finest managers in world football, has been heavily linked with moves to United and Real Madrid over the past few seasons, as they both see him as the ideal candidate to lead their repsective clubs into the future.
He has transformed Tottenham into one of the best sides in Europe, and with the new stadium on the way, there is alot of hype surrounding the Spurs side right now as many believe Pochettino is on the edge of winning some silverware for the club.
And amid all the speculation that he is considering his future with the club, Pochettino suggestedt he could look to replicate Arsene Wenger’s reign in north London, and see out the remainder of his managerial days with Spurs.
“I have a massive, huge respect for Arsene Wenger. Because when people talk of his 22-years in charge of a club like Arsenal and all that happens in that period,” said Pochettino on the Sky Sports website.
“You need to be so good, not only a coach but the values you translate.
“I hope, or wish, to be here 20 years and decide to leave or to finish my career here. But I need to ask him, if one day I get the opportunity, if he is happy in the way he finishes. I don’t believe [he did].”
Former Netherlands striker John van Loen has told Ajax star Matthijs De Ligt that a move to Manchester United would be the best move for him.
De Ligt is enjoying a stunning season for Ajax and has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest prospects in recent seasons with the likes of United, Barcelona Chelsea and Real Madrid just a few names to be lining up a massive £60 million move in the coming transfer windows.
With the ability he is already showing at Ajax, along whith his physical presence, many believe thate he will eventually develop into one of the best defenders in the game, and United have been desperate to sign him up as they are in need of a top-class defender at the back.
And amid rumours that United could make a move this month, Van Loen hopes the young defender chooses the Premier League as his next destination.
“Barcelona is the best place for De Jong,” he told Goal.
“Because they play football, not kick and rush, and he is good with the ball.
“I think Manchester United is perfect for De Ligt.
“I hope De Ligt rejects Juventus’ offer.
“Italian football does not suit him and the Premier League is much better and stronger.”
