New signing Kovacic speaks out after sealing brilliant Chelsea move
New Chelsea signing Mateo Kovacic has sent Blues fans a message and admitted he is ‘really happy’ to be at Stamford Bridge after completing his loan deal late on Thursday evening.
The 24-year old Croatian star ended months of speculation by putting pen to paper on a 12-month lean deal as part of the deal which saw Thibaut Courtois get his move and sign for La Liga giants Real Madrid for £35 million.
The big Belgian failed to return to pre-season training after his holidays and forced through the late move to Spain, where he will not link-up with his family and friends, who live in Madrid.
And Kovacic will arrive at Stamford Bridge with big expectations on his shoulders having won three Champions League titles since his move to Real, despite the fact his game time at the club was limited.
He played five games during Croatia’s run to the World Cup final this summer, but couldn’t help his national side beat a very entertaining French side.
Kovacic said on the official website: ‘I am really happy and excited to be here at Chelsea. It is an amazing feeling. I will try to do my best for this club.
“It is a new league for me, the beginning is always tough but I am sure the coach and my new team-mates will help me and I am looking forward to a great season.’
Boss Maurizio Sarri managed to get some big transfer business done in the final few hours of the summer, as goalkeeper Kepa also arrived. But keeping hold of both Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante will be the biggest news for Blues fans, as many believed that the duo would pack their bags and head over to Madrid and PSG with both clubs ready to splash over the £100 million mark to complete a deal.
