Mikel Arteta has been told that he requires a £200 million ($278m) spending splurge in order to make Arsenal competitive.

There is no doubt that Mikel Arteta has done a pretty decent job at the Emirates, especially with the squad that he currently has, but there is a feeling that he will need to spend big in the transfer window to make the Gunners a more competitive team.

He needs a new defender, a new midfielder and possibly a new striker as the club have struggled to find the back of the net this season, and Assessing the club’s class of 2020-21, Graham – who delivered two First Division crowns across nine years as Arsenal boss – has claimed that they need to spend at least £200 million.

He told Express Sport: “They have got problems, but they can rectify them with three players.

“Arteta is doing a very good job. But while he has improved the players, he has only improved them to a certain point.

“They have got to have natural ability to get to the next level.

“Arsenal have outstanding young players, but they need help. Quality players around them to show them the way.

“They need to go out and buy two or three players, each costing £75m to £100m.”

Amani Richards has confirmed he has left Chelsea for Arsenal.

Richards is an England youth international, having previously featured for the England u16s along with current Arsenal youth players like Zach Awe and Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

The 16-year-old forward, who has represented England at youth level, confirmed the move on Instagram.

“Signing for Arsenal, my boyhood club, it’s just a great thing,” he said. “It’s a club that everyone in my family supports. Everyone around me supports Arsenal.

“I mean I always wanted it to happen eventually, but it happening now is just a great thing.

“I’m just really, really excited to get going.”

This is a real coup from Arsenal to sign the gifted little player, as Chelsea rated him very highly and will be disappointed that he has decided to pack his bags and depart Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal fans will love that he has made the move to the Emirates.

Brighton star Tariq Lamptey has been sent a transfer message about a possible move to the Arsenal in the video below…

Mikel Arteta has admitted that on-loan midfielder Martin Odegaard is making the Arsenal a more difficult outfit to contain, ahead of a potential permanent move in the summer.

After a few weeks of talks, Arsenal managed to secure a transfer deal for Odegaard until the end of the season after he failed to get the game time that he wanted under Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid.

The 22-year-old has been eased into the fold by Arteta, with the classy playmaker needing to adjust to new surroundings, but his performance against Greek giants Olympiacos on Thursday showcased what he is all about and the value he can offer to Arsenal.

Arteta told the Gunners’ official website on how Odegaard improves his side: “He helps us to do the processes much better.

“He helps us as a team because he gives us a lot of continuity on the ball.

“He’s really intelligent to find the spaces, he attracts a lot of opponents. We ask him to score goals, to arrive in the box.

“Today, he scored a brilliant goal and his contribution was really important for the team.”

It is no secret that Madrid did not want to let Odegaard leave the club on-loan in the January window, but he forced their hand and demanded a move away for a few months. But that does not mean the Spaniards will allow him to leave on a permanent basis.

They have big hopes for Odegaard and they will only sell if Arsenal offer an amount of money that they simply cannot refuse.
