£71 million talks confirmed, Arsenal in talks to get rid of star, President sends transfer message with Arsenal move close
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews.
Reports have claimed William Saliba wants to stay at Saint-Etienne for the 2019/20 season, meaning Arsenal will have to loan him out when they complete his signing.
Breaking into Saint-Etienne’s first-team in September, Saliba had an outstanding debut season in France and caught the attentions of the Premier League’s elite with his performances.
Gunners boss Unai Emery have been keeping close tabs on Saliba’s progress and reports this weekend claim that Arsenal are looking to hold talks over a possible deal for the centre-back.
Saliba, who is valued at around €30 million (£26m) by Saint-Etienne, has also impressed the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham over the past 12 months.
The Ligue 1 club are said to be open to selling the 18-year-old Frenchman this summer, but only if an interested club stumps up around €30m and then loans him back for the upcoming season.
The Ligue 1 club’s president, Roland Romeyer, wants him back on a loan basis – and he revealed the player wants a temporary return to France as well.
“He will stay at the club this season,” Romeye said on the Daily Express website “It is an imperative condition should we come to an agreement for his transfer.
“It’s also William’s wish.”
Liverpool have held talks with Lille over forward Nicolas Pepe, who has also been linked with summer moves to Arsenal and Manchester United.
Pepe has become one of the most sought after strikers in the game and has been linked with a mega money move to the Premier League with Arsenal boss Unai Emery keen on a deal.
Despite having one of the best attacks in the game, Emery feels that he needs to keep on improving the attack side of the game to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League titles, And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen on a transfer deal, as he wants to get the Red Devils scoring goals for fun on a regular basis.
However, according to recent reports in the media, Jurgen Klopp is eager to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield this summer in a deal worth around £53 million.
Liverpool may have one of the best squads in the game and have one of the best attacks in Europe, but Klopp knows he needs to keep on improving his squad if he is to overtake Manchester City in the Premier League, and now Lille president Gerard Lopez has confirmed that Liverpool have held discussions to sign Pepe this summer.
‘I know there have been discussions with the player, not with us as a club,’ Lille president Lopez told RMC Sport.
‘Liverpool have players in those positions and I read that maybe there were players who could leave, or not.
‘I am not particularly focused on Liverpool. But it is true that there have been discussions with agents.’
‘We had two offers before the Africaa Cup of Nations,’ he added. ‘We’ll see after that, my position was to see if we could not do something before it, we had two proposals before it, I had two clubs.’
Turkish journalist Fatih Dogan has claimed Arsenal are hoping to get rid of Mesut Ozil this summer as Unai Emery looks to overhaul his squad.
Ozil is one of the Gunners biggest players and one of the best number tens in world football, when he is on top form. But he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months as his performances in an Arsenal shirt have not matched the wages he was given under Arsene Wenger.
It was no secret that Ozil was almost out-of-contract last February before Arsenal gave in and offered him a massive £350,000-a-week deal, especially as they literally just let Alexis Sanchez leave for Manchester United and did not want to lose another big named player.
But since then his performances have been inconsistent and he has been heavily criticised for his work-rate, even being dropped by current boss Unai Emery for the big games of the premier League season, with many ultimately claiming that he could be sold this summer.
And journalist Fatih Dogan claimed he could head to Fenerbahce, as the Turkish side are trying to get a deal done for the German in the coming weeks.
He was quoted on the Daily Express website: “Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is working very hard to sign him.
“For his wages and loan fee, the club are trying to find the sponsors. They are working on it.
“I think it’s going very well. Right now, I can say the possibility is 50-51% positive.”
