Liverpool assistant reveals if fans will be welcoming new signings this January!

Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders has hinted that the club are unlikely to welcome any major signings this month.

The Reds spent close to £150million on new arrivals in the summer as part of a much-needed midfield rebuild as the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo all signed deals at Anfield.

Such spending has meant that LIVERPOOL are once again in the hunt to win that Premier League title and seriously challenge Man City – but there has been some speculation that moves could be made.

Liverpool have lost a number of players to injury this season – a few stars to the African Cup of Nations and know that a few more injuries could really scupper the season – but it seems that deals may not happen this Winter.

Speaking ahead of their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Fulham, Lijnders said: “We spent a lot of money in the summer. We really invested in the squad.

“The ownership brought in the right players. This means that even when you have injuries at the moment, they will be back in not that long.”

“We always believe in the academy as well,” he added. “You want to produce your own players to be able to compete, fight and win trophies.

“The reason we have an academy with 250 players running and dreaming and hoping [of playing in the first-team] is that in these moments when a season gets tough in terms of injuries, they can back you. So far, they always did.”

LIVERPOOL have really struggled with injuries this season and with all the games that he face between now and the end of the season – it could be a mistake to not strengthen the side should a player become available.
