Newcastle signing ‘will be like a big fish’ Howe and Toon fans told

Jonathan Woodgate believes Lingard would be a ‘big fish’ for Newcastle should he make the move to St.James Park.

Lingard has started just two Premier League matches for the Red Devils in 2021-22 and is now fed up of being sat on the bench that he has decided that he wants to Leave Man United at the end of the season.

That has led to all sorts of reports that the likes of West Ham – Everton and even Leeds are all ready to make their moves in the transfer window and offer him a nice big contract.

However, Newcastle remain the current favourites to sign Lingard once his current deal at Old Trafford expires – with the Englishman still keen to make the move to the mega rich Toon

The England international was keen to sign for Newcastle United during the January transfer window, only for Manchester United to block a move – as they had some injury issues that they needed to cover

And amid all the speculation that Newcastle are closing in on a deal for Lingard – Woodgate has opened up and had his say on the possible arrival of Lingard: “I think if he comes to Newcastle he will be the big fish, and he’s not the big fish at [Manchester] United,” Woodgate told BritishGambler.co.uk.

“If he goes [to Newcastle] he will be one of the main men, and that might help him. I like him and think he has great qualities, and great attitude. He will want to prove a few people wrong.

“He’s only started two games this season and he hasn’t had a fair crack of the whip this season. If you look how bad United have been, has he had a fair crack at it? I don’t think so!”

Lingard is a player that given the chance – he will nick you a goal or two and it has been sad to see that United havent used him at all this season – especially when they have lacked goals at times

But right now a move to Newcastle would reignite his career and he would honestly be a good signing for the Toon
