Arsenal make Brazilian-born defender first signing of the January window
Arsenal have completed their first January signing, bringing in Lino Da Cruz Sousa from West Brom.
The transfer window has opened the door to Mikel Arteta bringing in some big names in order to help his Arsenal squad get closer to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.
It is no secret that the Spanish boss is eager to add another midfielder to the squad and maybe another striker, as he has issues in those areas of the pitch that cause their season to derail very quickly.
However, it seems that they are still landing some talented players after Football.London report that Arsenal have beaten their rivals to his signature and that Da Cruz Sousa has already linked up with his new teammates in north London.
The 16-year-old has been playing for the Baggies’ Under-18s and caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs, playing at left-back.
The reports states that he is one for the future and will not be appearing in that Arsenal first-team shirt anytime soon.
West Brom’s Under-18’s coach, Peter Gilbert, said of the youngster: ‘Lino’s an athletic full-back, reads the game well, has a lovely left foot and it’s not often a 16-year-old plays an entire season with the 18s, but that’s credit to him because he has so much potential.’
There has been some quality players linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks and fans are getting excited. But it is no secret that the first January signing for the Gunners is a talent.
They have a habit of buying for the future still, even though they need to be splashing what little cash they have on players that will make an impact on the squad right now.
This is a big move for the lad, but odds are, he will never make it to that Arsenal first-team squad on a regular basis
