Lisandro Message sent – Arsenal interested in Fofana – Lisandro willing to make Arsenal move in Arsenal news of the day…

Lisandro Martinez is willing to leave Ajax for Arsenal this summer after the Gunners tabled a new £34.5million bid for the in-demand defender.

Capable of playing in either a back three or back four, the 24-year-old – who was named Ajax’s Player of the Season – can also slot into his more natural position in the heart of the defence and provide cover for Gabriel Magalhaes in the left centre-back role.

Additionally, Martinez would also offer midfield cover too – a role he has performed more regularly for Ajax, much more so than the left-back role.

Arsenal were left light on options in midfield last season, particularly while Thomas Partey was injured, and Martinez’s potential arrival would provide much-needed depth.

And according to reports – the Argentine is said to be ‘keen’ on a move to the Emirates after they submitted an offer this week – even though there is no Champions League football on offer in north London

According to The Athletic, it is the Argentine’s versatility that appeals to Arteta the most and, although he has played predominantly as a centre-back for Ajax, he could be moved into a new position.

The north London club have already wrapped up a deal for Porto playmaker Fabio Vieira this summer while Gabriel Jesus is the latest player to join the revolution at the Emirates this summer

Fofana interest –

It has again been claimed that Arsenal are interested in signing Ligue 1 star Seko Fofana this transfer window

After a hard fought season last year in which the Gunners just missed out on Champions League football – Mikel Arteta knew that he needed the backing of the board to help improve the current squad

And so far he has been very active -with Marquinhos – Fabio Vieira – Matt Turner and Gabriel Jesus already all signed up – with reports that Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez could also come to the club

But it seems that Arsenal will continue to spend as reports one the Daily Mail, which says the Gunners are still interested in reinforcing their midfielder after signing FC Porto’s Fabio Vieira on a long-term contract last week.

And according to the reports Fofana is one of the players that Mikel Arteta is very much interested in signing this summer

The 27-year-old Ivorian international, has been one of the most impressive players in Ligue 1 in recent seasons, having signed from Udinese for just under £8m in 2020.

He enjoyed a stellar season last time out, playing in all 38 fixtures and scoring eight goals from midfield as lens finished just outside the European spots in seventh in the French top flight

Former Gunners star Emmaneul Petit recently urged Arsenal to sign Fofana – speaking to Genting Casino, Petit said: “They need at least four or five players to improve the team.

“They need two players in midfield. I really like Seko Fofana from Lens. He is box-to-box midfielder. He is a very talented player.”

Petit is a legend at Arsenal and very well respected by the fans that managed to see him play on a weekly basis – but his opinion in players does not really matter does it?

Fofana is a very decent player that may be ready to step up to the Premier League – but is he really a player to help Arsenal get back challenging for all those big titles?

Lisandro message sent

Sky Sports football journalist Sam Blitz has opened up and revealed why Mikel Arteta is keen to sign Lisandro Martinez for Arsenal

Lisandro Martinez is a player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates over the past few weeks as Mikel Arteta is keen to bring the talented defender to the Premier League

There has been many rumours as to why Arsenal are so keen to secure a transfer deal for Lisandro – but now Blitz has opened up and claimed just why Arteta is so keen to secure a £40M transfer deal for the player

“Mikel Arteta enjoys his Arsenal> side playing out from the back and Lisandro Martinez was a specialist at that last season.

“The Argentinian centre-back completed more passes per 90 than any other player who played more than five matches last season – and also boasts the highest passing accuracy in the league as well out of players in that category.

“Martinez also made more accurate through balls than any other centre-back in the Eredivisie last season – proving he can play that killer pass into the attack. In fact, he made 13.4 passes per 90 into the final third – only five players in Europe’s top seven leagues – including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago Alcantara – managed more.

“The defender coined the term the ‘Butcher of Amsterdam’ during his time in the Netherlands and it’s clear to see why.

“Despite a modest height of just 5 ft 9 inches, he still wins 70% of his aerial duels per 90 and conceded the fewest shots from inside the box by centre-backs in the Dutch league last season. In short, he’s difficult to get around.

“Martinez will likely challenge Gabriel for a spot in Arsenal’s left centre-half spot but the Argentine’s versatility means he can operate in other areas.

“Martinez spent the majority of his first season at Ajax playing in defensive midfield – and was occasionally used at left-back in the 2020/21 campaign.

“That means Martinez can fill in should the injury-prone Kieran Tierney head back into the treatment table next season, while the 24-year-old can act as an alternative to Granit Xhaka as well.”
