£75 million bargain! Jurgen Klopp has special Liverpool message for ‘commander’ Van Dijk
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for defender Virgil Van Dijk, who produced another commanding display against Bayern Munich.
With Liverpool heading to the Allianz Arena on the back of a 0-0 draw at Anfield, Klopp needed the back-line to produce a special performance to keep the Germans at bay, with Van Dijk at the heart of things in the back-line.
And the £75 million Dutchman once again showed his quality with another fine display which led to the Reds picking up a 3-1 victory and progressing into the quarter finals of the Champions League, with Van Dijk also picking up a goal in the process.
And Klopp has once again heaped praise on his big man after another commanding performance, telling the Sky Sports website: “I can write a book about his skills, his strengths, how much I like him, what a fantastic person he is. He’s so young and already so mature, so strong; all good.
“Virg knows that he can play better than he did tonight, we can play better than we did tonight. But especially in the second half we played as good as necessary and possible in a game like this.
“It’s so important to stay in the game and you are stable and have answers to the questions and can change things and use different tools.
“We had so many good football moments in the second half especially. It’s a difficult place to come and not a lot of teams have an away win at Munich on their cards. We have that now and that’s cool.”
Here is what we think.
Right now there are not many better defenders out there than Van Dijk and the £75 million they paid Southampton for his services is a real bargain. He has help make Liverpool one of the most defensively sound sides in Europe, so with him at the back, they have a big chance of winning the Champions League this season.
