Chiesa to Liverpool? £62 million man opens up on possible Anfield switch
Liverpool transfer target Federico Chiesa has told Jurgen Klopp that ‘he is happy’ at Fiorentina, amid speculation that the Reds are lining up a move.
Regarded as one of the finest young talents in world football, Klopp has been lining up a move for Chiesa for some time now as he looks to add a bit more strength in depth to his Liverpool side, as he simply cannot rely on Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino for every game of the season.
And there has been speculation that he was ready to test the resolve of Fiorentina in the January transfer window with a mega money offer, but Chiesa has moved to quash all speculation on his future by admitting that he is more than happy at the Italians and has no intention of leaving the club.
He was quoted on the TalkSport website: “My only priority is to show, Sunday after Sunday, who Federico Chiesa is. I’m happy here at Fiorentina now. Again, I’m only thinking of the next game.
“I’m just thinking about proving my value all the time those numbers seem a bit exaggerated. Who would I buy for €60m (£52.8m)? Give me some more, because for the absolute top players you need €200m (£176m).”
Could Liverpool still prise Chiesa away from Fiorentina? Here is what we think.
The young man still has a few years of development ahead of him yet before he is able to make the move to the Premier League and make a real impact on the English game, so maybe staying put for now is the best thing for his career.
So even though Liverpool may be disappointed to hear that he is happy where he is, a move in the future is not off the cards if the right amount of money is offered.
