Liverpool could not wrap up deal for class defender after official announcement made
There has been some claims that Liverpool could look to sign Lille star Leny Yoro after the decision was made to let Joel Matip depart the club.
The centre-back has won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup with the Reds over eight seasons on Merseyside and became one of the most reliable players under Jurgen Klopp.
However – Matip, 32, suffered an ACL injury in December, meaning his final game for the Reds was a 4-3 home win against Fulham as he was unable to agree a new contract that would see him stay with the club
Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to Matip on the Liverpool website: “In all the years that I have been involved in football, I am not sure I have come across too many players who are more loved than Joel Matip. I’m not even sure it would be possible to say anything bad about him,” said Klopp.
“A wonderful professional, a wonderful footballer and a wonderful human being – we have been blessed to have him with us for as long as we have and now all we can do is wish him well as he heads off in a new direction.”
Now – according to CaughtOffside, the Reds are one of multiple elite clubs looking at the 18-year-old
The 18-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant, breakout campaign for the French side, playing in all but one of Lille’s league games as challenged for a Champions League place.
Yoro is a precocious, ball-playing, modern centre-back – and is seen by the Chelsea board as the idea player to come in and help fill the void that Matip will leave when he officially departs the club.

All the big clubs want Yoro – they believe that he could be one of the best defenders in the game and if LIVERPOOL signed him – he could be a great partner for Virgil Van Dijk while he is still at the club.
And the young man could also learn alot from one of the most dominant defenders in the game.
