Wow! Liverpool fans told ‘to not get too excited’ about January signing
Dutchman Cody Gakpo will not recreate his form for PSV while wearing a Liverpool shirt – that is according to Spurs expert John Wenham
After becoming one of the most sought-after young players in the game – Liverpool announced just before the January window opening that Gakpo would be signing this month.
The young man already has 12 assists and nine goals for PSV this season and is a lad that Jurgen Klopp will hope can turn the season around – as this Liverpool side is really struggling to pick up the wins they need.
But despite all the excitement around his arrival to the club – Wenham doesn’t expect his form in the Eredivisie to translate to the Premier League after spending years watching Steven Bergwijn struggle at Tottenham
“My view on this has not changed since Liverpool signed him instead of Man United,” Wenham told Football Insider
“Just look at Steven Bergwijn. He was hitting similar numbers over there before he signed for Tottenham and he did next to nothing for us.
“We will have to see how he does when Liverpool have all of their key players back. Alongside Salah and Diaz, anyone has a chance to score goals.
“I just don’t think anyone should expect him to come in and score the same number of goals he has been doing for PSV.
“It is very rare you get a player from an inferior league coming over and performing to the same standard in the Premier League, very rare.
“He is a talented player, there is absolutely no doubt about that. We saw it at the World Cup.
“I just don’t think the fans should get too excited yet or expect him to hit those same numbers.”

I think we are all excited to see just what Gakpo is able to bring to Liverpool – he could struggle, or he could be a January bargain.
It will be an interesting watch.
