Pundit ‘expecting big things’ from big Liverpool signing after promising start
Paul Robinson expects “big things” from Cody Gakpo at Liverpool after “a promising” debut against Wolves.
After becoming one of the most sought-after young players in the game – Liverpool announced just before the January window opening that Gakpo would be signing this month.
The young man already has 12 assists and nine goals for PSV this season and is a lad that Jurgen Klopp will hope can turn the season around – as this Liverpool side is really struggling to pick up the wins they need.
There has been some worry in the media that Gakpo will struggle to adapt to the Premier League – but he put in a very solid performance against Wolves in his opening game for Liverpool.
Now – Robinson has opened up and admitted that he is now expecting big things from the Dutch talent – he told football insider: “It was a promising debut from him.
“I expect big things from him. He is a player that I have followed for a while. I like him.
“He will fit into that Liverpool system well. The way that he linked up with Nunez and Robertson bodes well for the future.
“I do not think it is a case of, ‘Look at our new signing.’ It is going to be a work in progress. He needs to be given time. He is not the finished article but there was definitely promising signs.
“It will be interesting to see if he starts again at the weekend against Brighton because that is a tough game. I expect him to start.”
I think we are all excited to see just what Gakpo is able to bring to Liverpool – he could struggle, or he could be a January bargain.
He did ok in the game against Wolves in the FA Cup at the weekend – but he will need to do more to be successful at Anfield
