Liverpool and Manchester United both ready to sign £100m star Coutinho after Barcelona confirm summer exits
Liverpool and Manchester United have closed in on a potential move for Philippe Coutinho after Barcelona confirmed a number of players will be leaving the summer.
Coutinho was an absolute superstar at Anfield before he got his dream move to Barcelona just a few seasons ago, and despite the Reds impressive attack, there have been many in the media which have claimed they have not found an adequate replacement.
And there has been some speculation that he could be heading back to the Premier League at the end of the season, with Manchester United reportedly keen to tie down a massive £100 million transfer deal.
However, there has been some talk in the media which has suggested that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is actually open to the idea of bringing his former player back, especially as he need a long-term replacement for Jordan Henderson.
And they have been boosted in their chase after Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu has confirmed the club is working on departures from the Nou Camp as well as incoming transfers
Speaking in the wake of Barcelona’s loss to Valencia, Bartomeu said: “The season ends with the La Liga title. It wasn’t to be in the Copa del Rey and we keep moving forward.
“Every year new players come in. So far we have confirmed De Jong’s signing and now we will work on bringing in others and moving players on, as is normal every summer.
“Now is not the moment to do anything. There are always new signings, but now is not the moment to talk about it.”
Klopp is a boss that knows what he wants and he will be eyeing up a number of possible signings, and he will be given the money in the summer transfer window to spend big money, so surely he will manage to acquire the right kind of player.
Liverpool will need to add a few more superstar players to the squad if they are to challenge for more than the Premier League title next season, and although Coutinho is no longer loved by many of the Reds fans, there is no doubt that he could still add some much needed quality to the Liverpool attack.
And if United are serious about getting back to the very top of the game, then signing players like Coutinho when they become available on the market is what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to do.
