Man United in £45m talks, Liverpool in talks to sign defender?, Bale perfect for United, Lemar has Reds message, United eye £100m deal
Here is the roundup of latest Liverpool and Manchester United news from icfootballnews.
Reports have claimed Manchester United have opened talks with Leicester about a possible deal for Manchester City target Harry Maguire.
Maguire become one of the most talked about defenders in Europe after impressing for England during the world cup and his performances caught the attentions of a number of top Premier League sides, with United also keen to acquire his services.
Former boss Jose Mourinho was desperate to improve the back-line and constantly admitted that he wanted to sign a new defender before he got the sack earlier in the season and replaced by boss Solskjaer.
Now that Solskjaer is permanent boss for the foreseeable future, he will be able to acquire the players whom he believes will help get the side back inside the top four and then challenging for the premier League title, with Maguire on the shopping list.
United are in more urgent need of defensive reinforcements this summer and the Evening Standard claim the club have opened ‘negotiations’ with the Foxes.
Long-term Liverpool target Thomas Lemar has ruled out an exit from Atletico Madrid this summer, despite a difficult first season in La Liga.
Lemar was a sensation during his time at Monaco, with his performances there earning him a place in the triumphant France squad at the 2018 World Cup, and linking him with a move to Anfield.
The Frenchman arrived at Wanda Metropolitano last summer for a club record fee of around £68m, but his place in Diego Simeone’s starting lineup has come under question with a number of questionable performances for the Spanish giants.
And that has led to speculation in the media that he could once again be making a summer move, with the Reds once again linked with a move as they seek to add another winger to their ranks.
It is no secret that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping to spend some serious money this transfer window and sign a new winger, to add a bit more depth to the wide areas.
But Lemar has seemingly ruled out any possible exit this summer by admitting that he hopes to do better next season.
The French winger told beIN Sports: “I’m at Atletico and I’ll be back next season. I still want to progress. I wanted to do it this season, I will try to do even better next season.”
Jonathan Barnett has claimed Gareth Bale would ‘fit in’ at Manchester United, but would he be a good signing?
There has been a lot speculation that United could try and acquire the services of unhappy Bale, who has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu all season, as the 29-year-old has struggled to hold down a starting place in the Real side since Zidane returned in March.
Bale has won four Champions Leagues, La Liga and the Copa del Rey during his six years at Real but is all set for an exit after Zidane admitted that he does not suit the team anymore.
The French boss has now decided that the man that won him his third Champions League crown just over 12 months ago, is no longer wanted at the club.
Zidane has just acquired Eden Hazard from Chelsea on a big five-year deal, with the Belgian expected to replace Bale at the club.
And with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeking to splash some cash and bring in a few world class players this summer it is widely expected that they make a move for Bale.
Liverpool are interested in Mainz star Jean-Philippe Gbamin this transfer window, according to agent Bernard Collignon
Gbamin has made almost 100 appearances for the German side in three seasons, missing just three games as Mainz finished 12th last season.
His performances for the German side this season have caught the attentions of the Liverpool boss, as he seeks to find an adequate partner for Virgil Van Dijk, who has turned this Reds side into a force at the back.
Klopp has been eyeing up moves for the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld and even Matthijs De Ligt over the past few months, but the agent of Gbamin has now claimed that the Reds have been tracking the versatile 23-year-old for many months.
Agent Bernard Collignon told German website Fussball Transfers: “In January 2018 Klopp called Mainz and wanted to commit him as a centre-back, who also helps out in midfield.
“But Mainz did not want to let him go in the middle of the relegation battle and in the summer, Liverpool signed Fabinho.
“I had meetings with Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Everton and many other clubs.
“He is in the shortlist. However, not as a top candidate, because its exact position is unclear.
“In my opinion he is a player worth €60million. It’s time for him to play as a centre-back.
“There he would be a top player in all four major leagues and would make a great career.”
Manchester United are still keeping tabs on Jadon Sancho as they prepare for life without Paul Pogba.
Regarded as one of the finest talents in world football right now, the Englishman has been linked with some of the biggest clubs in world football after impressing on numerous occasions for Dortmund, becoming a creative force in the Bundesliga.
However, there has been some speculation that it is Liverpool and United that lead the chase for the talented youngster, with Jurgen Klopp keen to add something else to his already impressive attack, while United are desperate to add an adequate replacement for the unimpressive Pogba.
The France World Cup winner’s future has been a major point of contention for the past few years, with Real Madrid seemingly his most likely destination.
And according to the Daily Mirror, United are still keen con Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Sancho.
Sancho has been taking the game by storm over the past few seasons and United reportedly see him as he future of the club, especially as he would bring goals to the club.
The Red Devils, however, will only bid for Sancho should they secure the sales of the wantaway duo Pogba and Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.
The funds from these players could be put towards Dortmund’s winger but it’s a transfer saga that could be drawn out into the summer.
