Man United to hold £100m defender talks, Dutchman signs with Liverpool, United target Icardi makes transfer decision
Here is a roundup of the latest Liverpool and Manchester United news from icfootballnews
Reports from France have claimed Manchester United have planned a meeting with the agent of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
With United seeking to add some much needed world class players to the squad over the course of the next few months, there has been a lot of speculation in the media over the past few months which have suggested the Red Devils are keen to sign up Koulibaly.
The United back-line have simply not been good enough this season and it cost the club the chance to get back inside the top four, meaning that United will have to spend another season in the Europa League.
Koulibaly is regarded as one of the best defenders in Europe right now and it is believed that Napoli will be interested in doing a summer deal, if the likes of United meet the high £110 million valuation they have placed on the powerhouses head.
And according to reports on the Daily Express website, the Red Devils are still trying to sign Harry Maguire, but see Koulibaly is an alternate option and discussions will take place this week.
Now there will be a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the next few days as United need to improve a number of key areas of the pitch to even get back inside the to four next season.
So if they are serious about challenging Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title again, then they will need to splash the cash and meet the valuation of Napoli, even if it is a little expensive for the defender.
Highly-rated Dutchman Ki-Jana Hoever has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool
Hoever made his senior debut for the Reds in an FA Cup tie against Wolves in January, aged 16, making him the youngest player to ever play for Liverpool in the competition, aged 16 years and 354 days.
The defender, who has featured in all six of the Reds’ friendlies this summer, put pen to paper on the terms, which represent the first professional deal of his career, at the club’s training base in Evian.
And although he may find game time hard to come by this coming season, the 17-year-old Dutchman told liverpoolfc.com that he is delighted with the deal: “I’m really happy to have signed here.
“I need to be realistic. I hope to make some minutes in the first team this year, of course, but I know that I will probably play more games for the U23s.
“I will just train hard with the first team, show them what I can do and if there is a chance, I will be ready. That’s what I am hoping for.
“I still need to learn a lot of things. I am still 17, so I just need to keep doing what I am doing to get better at the things that can be better.
“It’s a lot of trust from the club to let me sign this new contract. I will try to do them proud and show what I can do for this club – and I hope these are not the last few years I play here.”
Inter Milan misfit and Manchester United target Mauro Icardi has knocked back an offer to quit the San Siro for Arsenal this summer.
United are seeking to get back into the habit of playing Champions League football from next season onwards and know that some big money signings will be needed over the next few months.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to have around £200 million to spend on new talent, with a couple of defenders, a couple of midfielders and a world class striker needed at Old Trafford.
And with reports in the media all suggesting that Belgian powerhouse Romelu Lukaku will be sold this summer for a fee of around £70 million, Solskjaer is seeking a better alternative to the former Everton man.
And the Norwegian has reportedly set his sights on Milan striker Mauro Icardi, who has been linked with a move away from Seria A for the past 12 months.
Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal have made the first move to try and sign Icardi by making an enquiry about the availability of the hitman, as the Argentine striker is on the fringes at Inter following a series of disagreements and they want to offload him as soon as possible.
