Liverpool and Manchester United target Ramos has asked to leave announces President Perez
Real Madrid captain and Liverpool and Manchester United target Sergio Ramos asked to leave the club to join a team in China on a free transfer, president Florentino Perez has revealed.
With Liverpool and United bosses Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jurgen Klopp looking to improve their squads over the next few months, reports in the media have linked a number of world class defenders with a move to the Premier League.
And shock reports in the media over the past few days have linked Liverpool and United with a shock move for Madrid Captain Ramos, who has become very frustrated with life at the Bernabeu over the past 12 months.
However, it appears as though the 33-year-old is set for a move to the Chinese Super League as Ramos has been tempted by a huge offer in Asia and wants to move
Perez says Ramos and his agent approached the club claiming they had received “a very good offer from China”, but says Madrid had refused the defender’s request.
“They (Ramos and his agent) came to see me in my office and told me they had a very good offer from China but the league rules over there wouldn’t permit them to pay the transfer fee,” Perez told radio station Onda Cero.
“What was I going to tell him? We said this couldn’t happen but we’d speak to the club to satisfy him but that Real Madrid could not afford to let its captain leave for free as that would set a terrible precedent for other players.”
Ramos is one of the best defenders in Europe and has been for more than a decade, so it is obvious to see that both United and Liverpool would show a strong interest in trying to get a transfer deal all wrapped up.
But if Ramos does want that mega move to China, then there will not be an offer that the Premier League duo will be able to give the Spaniard that meets the demands of what the Chinese outfit are prepared to give him.
Liverpool and United will improve their back-lines over the next few months, but it will surely not be Ramos that makes a move to the Premier League.
So it will be interesting to see just what defenders arrive at the Premier League duo this transfer window.
