Liverpool and Man United told ‘Griezmann wont replace Coutinho’ at Barcelona
Antoine Griezmann will not replace Philippe Coutinho at Barcelona, according to the Brazilian midfielder’s agent
Griezmann this week sent the football world crazy after confirming that he will be leaving Madrid at the end of the season in search of pastures new, with the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona linked with a move.
United have been keeping tabs on Griezmann for the last few seasons but have failed to complete a transfer deal as the Frenchman had not intention of quitting the Spanish giants.
But he will be available for the highest fee this season, with some reports suggesting United were prepared to pay the £108 million fee for the services of Griezmann.
However, there has been some talk in the media which has suggested that he will be heading to Barcelona this summer, with the Spaniards keen to offload Coutinho over the next few months, if you believe all the reports.
Coutinho has not had the best of seasons at the Camp Nou and has been constantly in the headlines for his poor performances, especially in the shock semi-finals loss to Klopp’s Liverpool side.
But Andrea Bertolucci, Coutinho’s representative, insists the 26-year-old will not be leaving the Nou Camp if Griezmann is signed.
“It’s untrue that Griezmann is going to replace Philippe at Barcelona,” Bertolucci told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I don’t know why they are saying that. I don’t know about that and that’s why I don’t want to talk anymore, but it’s false.”
ESPN pundit Cragi Burley recently urged Liverpool boss Klopp to try and secure a deal for Griezmann, suggesting he could be the perfect signing for the club if they were able to beat off Barcelona and United.
“I actually think that Liverpool would be a great place for Griezmann to go this summer,” he said on the ESPN website
“Liverpool are very much a team on the up at the moment and he could aid Roberto Firmino who also likes to drop deep.
“Liverpool are a huge club who are fighting for league titles with Manchester City and have reached the last two Champions League finals.
“I don’t know if they have got enough money to do it but I wouldn’t go to Manchester United, that’s for sure.
“You talk about how good Griezmann would be linking up with Messi and Barcelona, what about with Liverpool’s front three?
“You look at that and we talk about Liverpool needing that strength in depth, he would add that and Firmino or Salah some games might sit out.”
