Liverpool fans told £71 million Pepe deal all depends on star man Mohamed Salah
Journalist Duncan Castles has claimed Nicolas Pepe’s move to Liverpool depends on Mohamed Salah.
Pepe has become one of the most sought after strikers in the game and has been linked with a mega money move to the Premier League with Arsenal boss Unai Emery keen on a deal.
Despite having one of the best attacks in the game, Emery feels that he needs to keep on improving the attack side of the game to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League titles.
However, Jurgen Klopp is eager to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield this summer in a deal worth around £71 million and speculation in the media has claimed that they are ready to pay the big money to complete this deal.
But Castles understands that a move for the £70million-rated Ivory Coast international will only happen if the Reds sell one of their top forwards.
Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast on Sky Sports, Castles said: “There is a long-standing interest in Nicolas Pepe at Lille. They have talked to the player’s agent about a move.
“The feeling at Lille its that [a] deal will only happen if Liverpool sell one of their top strikers – and at Lille they believe that the possibility is that Mo Salah will move down the line and that Nicolas Pepe has been identified as a replacement there.
“There are obviously limitations on Liverpool from a financial perspective in that they have spent heavily on players in recent seasons, breaking transfer records on multiple occasions.”
Pepe is one of the hottest properties in the game right now and is destined to make a big move up this transfer window, so it is obvious that he would be linked with a move to Liverpool, who are one of the best clubs in the world right now.
But Castles is right and Liverpool will only try to complete a transfer deal for Pepe if one of the top stars leaves, as he would not want to play back-up to the world class attack that Jurgen Klopp has at the club.
