£75 million rated De Ligt tells chasing ‘there is no agreement’ to sign for Barcelona
Liverpool target Matthijs De Ligt has denied he has an agreement to sign for Barcelona at the end of the season.
After helping Ajax reach the Champions League semi-final, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in the process, De Ligt has become one of the most sought after defenders in the game.
The 19-year old has shown great leadership, ability and is a physical specimen already, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all hoping to try and get a deal done.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp may have one of the best attacks in the game, but he needs to add some more depth to his back-line as star man Virgil Van Dijk simply cannot continue to do everything, and needs a partner he can fully trust in.
De Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season for an initial fee of £65m, and now the powerful Dutchman has revealed he has held talks to leave the club.
Asked if he’d made his last appearance for the club, de Ligt replied on the Sky Sports website: ‘I don’t know yet. ‘There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement.’
Dutch legend Edwin Van Der Sar recently admitted that he will make the move to England or Spain in the coming windows.
“Frenkie de Jong is already a Barcelona footballer, while De Ligt I think will go to England or Spain,” Van der Sar told Sky in Italy before Ajax were eliminated by Tottenham from the Champions League.
Liverpool have become a very attractive side for many top players over the past few seasons as many would love to work under the guidance of Klopp at Anfield.
They will be playing Champions League football again next season, be challenging for all the major trophies and will have the financial power to beat off most of their rivals.
But Barcelona are a hard team to turn down so Liverpool would have to offer something special to land the Dutchman in the summer.
But if anybody in the Premier League could pull off this kind of deal right now, it would be Liverpool, especially as Van Dijk is a good friend of De Ligt.
