Forget it Real Madrid, Barcelona as Liverpool to open talks and get £100m Van Dijk signed up
Reports have claimed Liverpool are all set to hand Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer target Vigil Van Dijk a big new contract.
Van Dijk is now considered one of the best and most dominant central defenders in World football after helping Liverpool become one of the most defensively sound sides in Europe, which has seen them challenge for the Champions League and Premier League title since his arrival.
However, his performances this season have caught the attentions of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are looking to revamp their squads in the summer and are reportedly ready to splash close to £100 million to try and tempt Liverpool into selling the powerful Dutchman.
But according to reports on the Sky Sports news website, Liverpool are all set to hand Van Dijk a contract that will ward off the attentions of the Spanish giants and keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
Van Dijk only signed for Liverpool a couple of transfer windows ago, so a new deal will just be to solidify his position at the club, especially as he is so important to the immediate success of the club.
Here is what we think.
Liverpool are looking to build a side that is capable of challenging for the biggest trophies for the next few seasons so keeping hold of their star players will be a must as losing them will have a negative effect on the plan that Jurgen Klopp is trying to implement.
He is world class and will attract all sorts of interest in the next few seasons, But Liverpool are challenging for big trophies right now and Van Dijk has shown no desire to leave.
However, there will be a time when he wants to win things and Liverpool will need to match his ambitions.
