Klopp backed to bring in next Van Dijk to Liverpool this summer

Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie has claimed that Liverpool need to sign the next Virgil Van Dijk.

LIVERPOOL are one of the best sides in the game right now – but had an awful season last year which saw the club miss out on champions League football.

That back-line – which has been so impressive over the past few years – was a real issues for Klopp and Liverpool conceded far too many goals.

Klopp has Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip and Nathaniel Phillips at centre-back but are in desperate need of reinforcements after struggling with injuries last season

When asked if the Reds will bring in a new centre-back this summer, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I would think so.

“It is a brutal reality but some of the players there are not good enough.

“When Van Dijk was injured the boys that came in just were not good enough. I am not saying they are not good players but they were just not good enough for Liverpool.

“Watching them over the years has been great but last season a couple of injuries and they were awful, they were shipping in goals left right and centre and Klopp will have to address that.

He will have to bring better players in for when someone gets injured. It is a long season, they can play 50 or 60 games again so if somebody gets injured they need to have somebody they can trust to come in and do their job.

There are not many Van Dijks about but I am sure if anyone can find one it will be KIopp.

So far – LIVERPOOL have been doing some great business – so if they are going to sign a defender – we are sure it will be an impressive arrival.
