Boss Rangnick announces Werner ‘unlikely’ to join Bayern as Liverpool close on on £30m deal
RB Leipzig boss Ralph Rangnick has told Liverpool that Timo Werner is unlikely to join Bayern Munich this transfer window.
Werner, 23, has one year remaining on his contract and has been linked with a move to Liverpool, PSG and Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp may have one of the best attacks in world football, but the German is keen to add some much needed back-up to his attack over the next few months and has been keeping an eye on the impressive Werner over the past few months.
The Germany international hasn’t agreed a new deal and there is a lot of talk in the media that Liverpool and Bayern Munich are leading the chase to nail down a £30 million transfer deal.
But the door has been left open for Liverpool after Rangnick claimed that Werner is unlikely to join Bayern.
“I would not be so sure that Werner will actually go to Bayern,” Rangnick told Sport Bild.
“If Bayern were absolutely sure about Timo, they would have already officially contacted us with a request.
“Anything else would be unusual for Bayern, especially since we have a good relationship with them.
“Our position has not changed: we do not want him to go into the last year of his contract without an extension.”
Liverpool do need to add some much needed depth to the side over the next few months if they are to keep this high level of football they like to play, and signing Werner would be a good bit of business.
The young man is scoring goals for fun over in the Bundesliga and he is still young enough to keep developing into one of the best strikers in the game.
And for the £30 million he would be a snip, especially as forwards in world football are going for more than double that.
If Liverpool have a chance to sign Werner, they should take it as he Werner could be the idea man to come in and add more goals to the Liverpool attack, especially as he could also play in a number of the front three’s roles.
