Ljungberg honoured to lead Arsenal, Gunners in talsk with Italian, Rodgers interested in Arsenal job, Emery lost his job…because
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news from icfootballnews.com
Sky Sports News reporter Kaveh Solhekol has claimed there has been contact with Max Allegri about the current Arsenal job.
After months and months, and MONTHS of calls for Arsenal to sack Unai Ememery, the board finally got together on Black Friday to discuss the future of the Spanish boss and the way the club were heading, and after a few hours of discussions, decided to sack the Spaniard.
Emery failed to win over the fans during the 18-month spell at the Emirates, and it seemed that he lost the dressing gown after a number of poor signings during the summer transfer window, which have not improved the side.
But focus now turns to whom could come in and replace the Spaniard at the Emirates, with reports that Allegri is now the top target to try and get the Gunners back challenging for more than a top six place.
And reporter Solhekol has claimed that there has already been contact with Arsenal and Allegri, about a possible job opportunity for the Italian great, HE TOLD SKY SPORTS:“Unai Emery lost his job as Arsenal head coach because owner Stan Kroenke lost faith after last night’s defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt.
“Kroenke was willing to give Emery more time but last night was the final straw.
“Senior figures at Arsenal including Raul Sanllehi and Edu had decided before last night that Emery needed to be replaced.
“We understand some senior figures at Arsenal wanted Jose Mourinho to replace Emery before he took the Spurs job. One source has told us there has been contact between Arsenal and Max Allegri and he wants the Arsenal job.
“Arsenal players had lost faith in Emery and his methods and communication was a big issue.”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed poor Arsenal signings cost Unai Emery his job at the Emirates.
Emery finally got the boot from the Arsenal hierarchy after months of calls by the Gunners fans to get rid of the Spaniard, who failed to achieve his goals of getting Arsenal some silverware or back inside the top four and Champions League football.
His style of football did not fit at the Emirates, his tactics were all over the place and he simply could not connect with the Arsenal fans during his 18-month spell at the club.
But former United ace Neville has come out and claimed ‘some truly pathetic; signings was the main reason why he lost his job at the Arsenal, telling the Sky Sports website: ‘I don’t know who’s been responsible for recruitment over the last two or three years, they’ve chopped and changed, there have been new people brought in. But if I was in the boardroom at Arsenal I’d be giving them a right rocket. There’s no way Emery is telling David Luiz to step up two or three times, there’s hideous things you see from the other defenders and midfielders.
‘You think of [Granit] Xhaka the other week, Emery is a man of honour and you see that behaviour, this is much deeper than the coach. Emery might be sailing his way back over the Channel this afternoon and be very happy to leave behind what is, quite simply a very average bunch of players.
‘There’s no way Unai Emery was telling the players to do those things. Some of the things we were seeing on the pitch were fantasy football really.
‘Without a shadow of a doubt the players have let him down. The manager will take the hit, it’s his responsibility to place them into an organised shape, but some of those players – I’ve been critical of my own club over the last few years for their recruitment policy and their strategy, but Arsenal’s is truly pathetic.
‘You couldn’t find a more erratic bunch of players in terms of defending to watch. If you said to find three or four most erratic defenders in Europe, it’s almost like that’s the brief for recruitment. The players have let him down but some of them aren’t up to it.
‘Freddie Ljungberg now takes over that defence, can he make the team into a defence that doesn’t concede goals and doesn’t concede shots? It’ll be short-lived, those players will let you down, 100 per cent.
‘He has to take responsibility, he has done. He was out there every single week on the touchline, getting the abuse at the end. He’s been a great coach, for many years, having a lot of success, and this job has found him out. He’s not been able to impact the players.’
Freddie Ljundberg has admitted it is an honour to lead the Arsenal side after Unai Emery got the sack.
Emery was supposed to be the man that got the Gunners back challenging for that Premier League title, and help the club get back inside the Champions League, but a number of dodgy signings and some tactical decisions meant that he is no longer the boss of Arsenal.
And that has now led to a lot of speculation in the media about whom could come in and get the Arsenal job, with a number of top bosses reportedly linked and in talks to possibly make that move to the Emirates.
But until there is a new man in charge, Ljungberg, who was Emery’s assistant, was put in interim charge of the Gunners on Friday morning after the Spaniard was sacked in the aftermath of the club’s worst run of results since 1992.
And he has admitted that he is honoured to be in charge of the Gunners, he told the Sky Sports website: “It is a great, great honour, that is how I feel. I have this energy inside me and it is special.
“There is sadness obviously with what has happened with the club, but excitement too with what is coming up and the chance to play.
“It is just a great honour and that is what I told the players – you guys have to do the job, I can help and support, but for me, it is a great, great honour.
“I was proud, honoured that they trusted me to do it and deliver that. I felt excited because I feel we have some very good football players here and it is a great club. I felt excitement at such a big thing.”
Pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers would be interested in an Arsenal move.
Unai Emery was brought to the club just a few seasons ago to take the Arsenal into a new era, a different way of playing from the way Arsene Wenger played the game, and was brought in to get the club challenging for that Premier League title once again.
But despite being given a decent amount of money and despite a number of backings from the Arsenal hierarchy, the Spaniard has failed to deceive over the last 12 months and he finally got the sack, which has delighted many Arsenal fans
Sutton insists that Rodgers would jump at the chance of replacing Unai Emery permanently despite his current achievement with Leicester City.
He said on BT Sport’s Early Kick-Off as cited by THE DAILY RECORD: “The best person for the job at this moment in time is Brendan Rodgers.
“Would he leave Leicester? Well, he left Celtic.
“He left the team he supported as a boy and the best job in the world to downgrade and go to Leicester, so why wouldn’t he want to upgrade and go to Arsenal?
“If you’re a Leicester fan, wouldn’t you want to hear Brendan Rodgers come out and say: ‘I’m totally committed to Leicester, I’m not going to go to Arsenal’.
“He had the chance to do that yesterday, and did he? No.”
