Arsenal news: Boss announces ‘it’s an exciting signing’ after late Gunners deal wrapped up!

Sambi Lokonga has joined Luton Town on loan for the 2023/24 season and he has revealed his excitement at the move.

ARSENAL needed to get rid of a number of players at the end of the transfer window in order to minimize the side of the squad and Lokonga is a man that Mikel Arteta does not need.

Big things were expected when he signed for the club – but that has not worked out and this is another good loan move for him to make as it will give him another shot to prove himself in the Premier League.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID – 

Arsenal posted on the club website: ‘In his early career, Sambi spent more than a decade with Belgian side Anderlecht before joining us in July 2021. He made his first-team debut aged 18 in December 2017 and went on to represent his hometown club 78 times in all competitions.

‘Everyone at Arsenal wishes Sambi all the best this coming season with Luton Town.

‘The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.’

Town boss Rob Edwards said: “It’s an exciting signing, he comes with lots of Premier League experience and has brilliant pedigree. I met him and had a really good chat, he’s hungry and wants to play football.  

“He knows and understands what we are about, he believes that he can help us and I think it’s a really good fit.  

“Another player for our squad who has Premier League quality, we’ll get him now for two weeks during the international break for him to bed in and I’m excited to have him.  

“He’s a midfielder who really looks after the ball, he gives us stability to play in a double pivot if needed, but he can also run on and play as a number eight.  

“He’ll give us more control in the middle of the pitch during certain moments of games, but he’s someone who hopefully we can help develop as well.”

Luton needed to sign some players to improve their chance of picking up points in the Premier League and Lokonga could be a good signing for them, if he has the desire to give 100 per cent.

Another good decision from ARSENAL to let a player go that is not part of the clubs plans.
