Benfica president opens up and announces Brazilian Luiz ‘has decided’ to be an Arsenal player this summer
Benfica’s president has confirmed that David Luiz has chosen to stay at Arsenal amid rumours of a return to his old club.
Luiz has been in the headlines alot over the past few days ever since news broke that he could be leaving the Arsenal during the summer transfer window, as his current deal runs out.
It has been claimed that a move back to Benfica ins the one that Luiz would prefer to make, although his agent has come out over the past 24 hours and suggested that it is much more likely that Luiz will stay at the Emirates.
Now, amid the speculation, Luis Filipe Vieira has come out and revealed that Luiz has in fact decided to stay at Arsenal, hetold Benfica TV: “I spoke to him yesterday, we have a father-son relationship.
“He was in the car with his agent and will renew with Arsenal for two years. David Luiz loves Benfica, but he is 33 years old and has to earn money.
“His salary in England is unthinkable for Benfica to pay. In England he earns €7million or €8million a year.
“If David Luiz comes and says “I want to come back”, if he is 35 years old and in perfect condition, of course we would welcome him.
“But now, if he came, it would only be for €1million and as a father I would say no. “David, you’re not coming, don’t be crazy, make more money!”
“It may be that it becomes a case like Rui Costa, who called me one day and said it was time to return, for me to make a contract, offer a salary, which he signed. If David Luiz does the same, he can return.”
It would have been a massive shock and surprise to see Luiz leave the club this summer, so Arsenal fans will surely be happy that he has decided to stay put?
