Brazilian Luiz opens up and announces ‘it was my call’ to complete shock Arsenal move
David Luiz makes Arsenal admission after Chelsea exit
New Arsenal star David Luiz has opened up on his Chelsea exit and revealed that it was his call to leave the Blues.
Unia Emery was linked with some of the games biggest players over the summer and it looked like Gunners fans were all set to see a world class defender come in and help shore up that dodgy back line that the club currently has.
But despite all the rumours, despite all the speculation and despite all the money that the club has, Emery shock many in the media by landing David Luiz from Chelsea in a deal that would only cost the club £8 million.
However, the Brazilians arrival has only made the Gunners back-line worse and he has already cost the Gunners points against Liverpool and Watford, with his other performances looking nothing more than a player that is not capable of playing at the top level any longer.
But Luiz has opened up on his departure from Chelsea in an interview with The Telegraph, revealing it was a difference in football philosophy with Frank Lampard which eventually led him to join Arsenal.
“I decided to leave Chelsea before there was contact with Arsenal,” he said. “People do not know that but I decided early to leave Chelsea. After that I had contact with Arsenal and I took a decision which everybody knows was not easy.
“Me and Lampard, we had honest conversations. Man to man, me and him. His ideas of football were different to mine. We just agreed: ‘OK, we move on’. In an honest way, in a mature way.
“We played together, we won together. We won the Champions League, the Europa League, everything together. It was done in a mature way.”
There were so many players out there that Emery could have tried to sign during the window but the club have ended up with Luiz, and although he may have a good game here and there, he is not the man that would help improve the back line.
Emery made a massive mistake in signing Luiz and it will only be his fault if he gets the sack before the end of the season.
