Juninho officially opens up about possible signing of Arsenal star Lacazette this summer

Lyon have played down the prospect of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette returning to the club this summer.

Despite the fact that Lacazette has been a big part of the Arsenal set-up over the last few seasons, there has been many reports in the media which have suggested that he is a player that the club are looking to cash in on this summer.

Mikel Arteta needs to raise funds in order to get the players he needs over the next few weeks, and knows that he may be able to get around £50 million for Lacazette on the transfer market.

And that has led to reports that he could be heading to Lyon this summer window, as they have reportedly shown an interest, But sporting director Juninho has now opened up about a possible move for the Frenchman.

In an interview with RMC Sport, he said: “In January I called Alexandre Lacazette to chat a bit with him because he was having problems at Arsenal and I said to myself, ‘Why not do a loan for six months with us where you will enjoy yourself, play all the games and score the goals like you know how to? And then you go back to Arsenal or somewhere else’.”

“But from the moment that you start looking at the level of the contract of these players, like with Juventus and Barcelona, it is not possible for us today.

“We have to be honest with the supporters. But if the player is looking for a project, is willing to make an effort maybe with a longer contract, wants to come home, then I will go and get him straight away.”

It will be interesting to see if Lacazette does leave the club and who Arsenal would bring in to replace him.

It is just a shame that the club now need to start selling players in order to complete the transfer business for the summer.
