Right money offer could get £80 million Arsenal Maddison deal done as Premier League boss opens up about possible exits
RODGERS ON POSSIBLE MADDISON EXIT
Brendan Rodgers has been speaking about his biggest players potentially leaving for big clubs like Arsenal.
Despite holding months of contract talks with the Gunners, Aaron Ramsey could not agree a new deal with the club and was forced to seek alternatives at the end of the season, with the Welshman having the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Even Barcelona all reportedly eyeing up a transfer deal.
However, then Italian Champions Juventus came calling for his signature and it did not take the Seria A giants to agree a deal with the Welshman and offer him the kind of wages that Arsenal were not prepared to pay, with reports suggesting he is getting around £400,000-a-week.
But Arsenal failed to acquire the kind of signing during the transfer window that would help the side this season, and replace the departed Welshman, as Unai Emery was keen to improve the back-line and the wings area of the pitch.
But with constant speculation in the media suggesting that German ace Mesut Ozil could be departing the club in the coming transfer windows, there has been some speculation in the media that Arsenal could reignite their interest in James Maddison.
Maddison has had a brilliant start to the new Premier League season and is now being chased by some of the biggest sides in the Premier League, with his goals, assists and ability in the centre of the park a big reason why Leicester are back in the hunt for a Champions League spot under Rodgers.
And although he has admitted that he would like to keep his biggest players, Rodgers has admitted that he cannot stop his stars leaving for some of the big boys in the Premier League, telling the Daily Express: “The reality is we will never be able to pay what some of these guys can get at those clubs.
“You can leave here and double or treble your wages. That’s the reality and it is important for players and people. If you cannot pay that, there is an opportunity for players to move on.
“It’s a great club here for them to come in and learn. It depends on what the player wants though.”
He added: “Look at Jamie Vardy, he was here and he had opportunities to leave but he decided no, he wanted to be here, to stay and continue the legendary status he has.”
Look Arsenal are one of the biggest sides in Europe but are lacking quality all over the pitch and if they want to get back into the habit of playing Champions League football and competing at the very top of the game, then they need to sign players that will make an impact.
And Maddison is just the type of player that Arsenal fans would love to see arrive, although his £80 million price tag is a bit steep.
