Arsenal target Martial to be handed whopping £45 million Manchester United contract

There has been some fresh reports which have claimed Manchester United are preparing to offer Anthony Martial a new contract worth £45m a year.

The 22-year old Frenchman has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months, with constant speculation that he is all set to pack his bags and leave the club.

Martial had been heavily criticised by boss Jose Mourinho, and a number of former players, for his inability to put in decent performances on a weekly basis, with the Frenchman going missing at times when he is needed most.

And that has led to speculation that he could head to the likes of Arsenal, PSG or Juventus in the next transfer window, with the special one reportedly ready to use the funds and land a winger that suits his preferred style of play.

However, over the past few weeks Martial has shown just why United paid £50 million to nail down his signature when he was just a teenager, and it seems that his latest run of form has convinced Mourinho that he now wants the Frenchman at the club.

The Sun Website has now claimed United are ready to open talks with Martial over a new contract which could be worth around £45 million, with add-ons and bonuses.

Does Martial deserve to sign such a big contract at United?

Although Martial has come into some form over the last few weeks and is starting to score a few goals, he did the same thing last season when he forced his way back into the United set-up and became a regular fixture in Mourinho’s side.

He is the type of player that can have a great first half of the season, and then have a terrible second half, he is too inconsistent and when United need him towards the back-end of the season, he seems to go missing.

He is one of the most talented young strikers in the game, and although Mourinho is keen to tie him down to a new contract, give it a few months and the Frenchman will once again be in the headlines linked with a move away, as the special one will once again lose patients with his performances.
