Welcomes to Old Trafford as Manchester United ‘have agreed’ £50 million Bassika deal
Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for £50 million this summer.
Wan-Bissaka has shot to prominence this season after breaking into Crystal Palace’s team and his performances for the Eagles have caught the attentions of both Arsenal and Manchester United, who are seeking to reinforce their back-line during the summer window.
And United are desperate to bring in another right-back, especially as long-time servant Antonio Velencia has departed the club after failing to agree a new long-term contract at the club.
And according to reports on the Sky Sports website, the deal is worth £50m and the 21-year-old England Under-21 international is set to travel for a medical imminently before going on holiday.
United would pay £45m up front, which would make him the Old Trafford club’s fifth-biggest signing, behind Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Angel di Maria and Fred.
A sticking point in negotiations was the 25% sell-on clause that United inserted into Wilfried Zaha’s contract when they sold the winger back to Palace for £6m in February 2015.
Former United star Danny Higginbotham recently claimed that Wan-Bassika would be a fantastic signing for the Red Devils this summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, he said: “In Wan-Bissaka, he’s a player that not many people knew too much about a couple of seasons ago. I’d spoken to Roy Hodgson about him when I was covering Crystal Palace’s games and he had a real baptism of fire in the first few games.
“He’s a former winger and it became apparent really when Zaha was playing against him in training and he said he’s one of the hardest defenders he’d ever played against.
“He’s not looked out of place in any game he’s played in the Premier League for Crystal Palace so I think he’d be a fantastic signing.”
Wan-Bissaka has three years remaining on his contract and Crystal Palace do not want to sell, but their resolve has been tested by the offer from United and they will allow the youngster to leave the club.
Wan-Bissaka is showing great potential and is certainly a talent that could evolve and develop if he when he secures this big money move to United.
