Mazraoui, 26, has won four league titles, three with Ajax and one with Bayern Munich and is a player that Manchester United  boss Erik Ten Hag was desperate to bring to the side having worked with the player during his time with Ajax.

After after sealing his move to Manchester – the defender has opened up and revealed just how delighted he is with the move – Noussair Mazraoui said on the club website: “It’s an incredible feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I cannot wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt.

‘I know that I’m joining the club at an exciting time; everyone I’ve spoken to has the same ambition for us to win trophies together and I can feel the determination to achieve that.”

“Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player, so it is exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career. I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful.”

Dan Ashworth, Manchester United sporting director, said: “Noussair is a dynamic, attacking full-back who can play on both the right and left side of defence. His experience and versatility will make him an excellent addition to our squad.

“Having already won a number of trophies in his career, we know that Noussair’s winning mentality will be a real asset to the group as we work together to deliver the success required of Manchester United.”

DE LIGT SIGNED –

Manchester United have confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt has joined the club after months of speculation that he is a player that Erik Ten Hag was desperate to add to the Red Devils squad.

The Netherlands international has signed a contract until June 2029, with the option to extend for a further year after it was decided Bayern Munich that he was no longer wanted at the club.

De Ligt has already won the league title in three countries with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich, and the defender has been brought in to add some leadership and quality to a Manchester United back-line that has been leaking goals.

Matthijs de Ligt said: “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club. In the conversations that followed, I was impressed by the vision that the football leadership set out, and the role they saw for me in it.

“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again. I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”

Dan Ashworth, Manchester United sporting director, said: “Matthijs is an outstanding defender and proven winner who will add quality, experience and leadership to our existing group of senior players.

“He has already enjoyed considerable success in his career, and we are convinced that his best years are still ahead; we want to help him achieve them at Manchester United.”

SCHOLES MAKES DE LIGT CLAIM –

Red Devils legend Paul Scholes is not a fan of Manchester United signing Matthijs de Ligt and labelled the former Bayern Munich star as a “second-rate defender” after failing to establish himself at the German giants.

Despite his accolades, Scholes remains unconvinced that De Ligt is the right fit for Manchester United –  he said on The Overlap Fan Debate, hosted by Sky Bet said: “With Man Utd, we’re talking about players who can’t get into their team. He’s [De Ligt] not playing for them [Bayern], that has to be a big concern, especially when Eric Dier is playing in front of him. That is a massive concern for me.

“You’re bringing in players for £40m, £50m just because he’s played for him [Ten Hag] two or three years ago,” Scholes remarked.

“Juventus got rid of him, he wasn’t good enough there and he obviously hasn’t been good enough at Bayern Munich. He’s coming to us almost like a second-rate defender.”

De Ligt has been very highly-rated for some time now and only time will tell if he becomes a great signing for Man United – but one thing is for sure – that defence needed sorting out and the Dutchman does have the quality to make an impact.

Manchester United have backed ten Hag this summer – it will be interesting to see how this all plays out and if the players he has signed make a difference.
