Emery ready to raid Manchester United and land Arsenal a Jones?

Reports have claimed Arsenal are ready to offer unhappy Manchester United defender Phil Jones a way out of Old Trafford, if he fails to agree a new contract.

Jones is one of a number of players at Old Trafford that is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free, if he fails to agree terms on a new contract, which is looking very likely as there is no indication from the club that he is part of their long-term plans.

Jose Mourinho has made no secret of the fact that he is not happy with the back-line and is looking to acquire one or two new top-class central defenders in the coming transfer windows, with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Milan Skriniar, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire all linked.

And according to the Sun, Arsenal and Tottenham are both ready to swoop in for Jones in the coming transfer windows if he fails to agree a new contract with the Red Devils.

Former boss Sir Alex Ferguson once admitted that Jones had the potential to become one of the clubs greatest ever signings, and he has made 171 appearances for the club since signing way back in 2011, But he has been pkagued by injuries during his time at Old Trafford and has not reached his full potential.

Could he be a solid buy for Gunners boss Unai Emery?

Jones puts his heart and soul into his performances for United and his tough-tackling, give everything attitude is the reason why he picks up so many injuries and fails to have a good run in the side. But Mourinho is not that sentimental and will let Jones go if the right offer comes in, or he buys the right replacement.

It is widely expected that Mourinho will have money to spend in the next few transfer windows, and if he gets his top transfer targets, then Jones will be one of the first out the door.

But Arsenal need a world class defender to come in and lead the back-line, so the acquisition of Jones may not be the best bit of business, even for nothing.
