Neville opens up and tells Solskjaer Manchester United ‘three or four’ Fernandes-type players signed
Manchester United are still short of “three or four” Bruno Fernandes-type players, according to Gary Neville.
Manchester United have been on a very impressive run over the last fifteen matches and have seen their chances of getting back inside those top dour spots increase dramatically.
United are also still in contention for FA Cup and Europa League honours, and it has been suggested that they could challenge Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the league next season, if a couple of slight tweaks are made.
Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation to the side since his move to Old Trafford back in January and is unbeaten in a United shirt, and club legend Neville thinks more signings like the Portuguese International will make the club challengers once again.
“This team is a lot more likeable than the one which was here two years ago when you thought United’s recruitment had lost direction,” the former Red Devils defender told Sky Sports after the win at Brighton.
“But l would urge some caution. Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League. They have a squad which is improving with young players.
“But there is still some work to be done in the transfer market to get this team to a title-winning team – which has to be Manchester United’s ambition.
“There is more needed and a lot more needed. Three or four players of high quality of the Bruno Fernandes type to get them to the point where they can challenge.”
There is no doubt that United are heading in the right direction and if they can land players like Fernandes that can make an impact on the side, the rest of the Premier League should be worried.
but it goes to show how a ready-made top-class player can change things for a side that is struggling, rather than youngsters for the future.
