Manchester United have offered Liverpool target £236,000-a-week to make move
Liverpool target Matthijs de Ligt has been offered a £236,000-per-week deal to join Manchester United, reports have claimed.
De Ligt is one of the most in-demand players in Europe ahead of the summer transfer window, having captained Ajax’s impressive young side to the Champions League semi-finals.
Many reports in the media have suggested that the likes of United, Arsenal and Barcelona are all keen on a transfer deal, with the latter reportedly leading the chase for a £60 million transfer deal.
But reports on Sport have claimed the Red Devils are hopeful their £12.3million-a-year package will see them beat Barcelona and Liverpool to his signature.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate for defensive reinforcements as he looks to guide Manchester United back to the Champions League next season, and has been linked with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire over the last few days.
Liverpool have become a very attractive side for many top players over the past few seasons as many would love to work under the guidance of Klopp at Anfield, while most players would still love the opportunity to sign for Barcelona.
They will be playing Champions League football again next season, be challenging for all the major trophies and will have the financial power to beat off most of their rivals, so United would have to offer something extra special to complete a deal for De Ligt.
United are one of the biggest clubs in the game right now despite their lack of success this season, but even they know that it will be very difficult to nail down the signature of De Ligt, even with the massive wage.
De Ligt wants to play at the highest level and that means the battle will surely be between Liverpool and Barcelona, so United may have to switch their attentions this summer as the £236,000-a-week offer may not be good enough.
