Man United encouraged to complete shock Premier League signing!
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has urged the club to make a shock summer move for Sunderland midfielder Granit Xhaka, arguing that the Switzerland international’s leadership is exactly what the Red Devils need to address a perceived lack of drive and authority within the current squad.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast this week, Schmeichel made an impassioned case for Manchester United to pursue the 33-year-old, who has been a standout figure at Sunderland since joining the Black Cats from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

“I make my case, what we are going to do is build the team around Kobbie, right.
‘Now Casemiro is leaving. Now you bring in somebody like [Adam] Wharton, [Elliot] Anderson whatever… that’s still young, that’s still untried. What we need and what we don’t really have apart from Harry [Maguire] and Bruno [Fernandes] in that team is proper leadership.”
Xhaka’s role as captain has drawn plaudits throughout the season, with the Switzerland international helping to guide Sunderland through a successful Premier League campaign following their promotion in 2025.
His combination of top-level experience, tactical nous and vocal presence has been cited as a key reason for the Black Cats’ relative stability and their push toward mid-table security.
Manchester United’s recruitment strategy appears to remain open, with a host of midfield targets — both youthful and experienced — linked with the club ahead of the summer window.
