Red Devils hero Ferdinand announces ‘he would love’ 50-goal midfielder Fernandes at Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand ‘would have loved Manchester United to sign Bruno Fernandes this summer transfer window.
United were linked with a whole bunch of players this transfer window as many fans wanted to see some big-time players arrive to help the club get back to the very top of the game. But despite all the transfer speculation, United only saw three new faces arrive.
Defender Harry Maguire was signed from Leicester, Daniel James was brought in to add some pace on the wings and Aaron Wan-Bassika was acquired to fill the void which has been left by long-time servant Antonio Valencia, in a quite disappointing window for United.
But one player that was linked with a move to Old Trafford was that of Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder that attracted all sorts of interest from Europes top clubs after scoring and assisting over fifty goals last season.
It was believed that United were prepared to pay the £70 million it would have taken to bring him to the Premier League this summer, and despite having the money to complete a transfer deal, the Reds could simply not get the deal done by August 8th and they have missed out on the attacker.
But after seeking Fernandes in his performances, Ferdinand has admitted that he would have loved to see the goal-scorer make the big money move to England, telling the Daily Express website: “I love the fact that [Solskjaer] invested his belief on [Marcus] Rashford and [Anthony] Martial by getting rid of [Romelu] Lukaku.
“I was surprised he didn’t go into the midfielder area. I would have loved the idea of Bruno Fernandes.
“He must be looking to rekindle Paul Pogba’s form.
“They need to have a performance against Chelsea that shows they are on the right track.”
Fernandes is a man that would have added goals to this United side that is lacking in bi-time players and although the midfielder is not the big-time signing that most fans wanted to see, he would have been a fantastic signing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make.
So it is a big shame that the Red Devils were unable to complete a deal for the man, but maybe next summer they will make a more firm move.
