Forget Koulibaly as Man United ‘in talks’ to sign £64 million Fiorentina star Milenkovic
MANCHESTER UNITED are in talks to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, it has been claimed.
United have endured a terrible start to the new Premier League season which has seen the Red Devils ship more goals in the league than they did in the whole of last season.
Jose Mourinho may be long gone and enjoying the sunshine somewhere, but a new central defender remains high on the Red Devils’ wish list after failing to sign one in the summer transfer window.
They have been linked with the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Kalidou Koulibaly in recent months, with some reports even suggesting a £90 million offer was to be made for the Napoli star.
But according to La Repubblica, Old Trafford bosses are pushing to secure Milenkovic’s signature ahead of next month’s mid-season sale, with the Serbia international’s agent talking to the club in a bid to land a deal.
It is believed he will cost United in excess of £60 million to acquire, but will be seen as a long-term investment as well as someone that can come in and make a real impact on the side.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as interim boss until the end of the season but he is not expected to be involved in any deals which United pull off, as they already scouted a number of players before they sacked the special one.
Is Milenkovic really going to help solve United’s issues?
If United are seriously desperate to get back into the habit of challenging for a Premier League title, Champions League crown, then they need to add a few world class players to the side in the coming windows.
And although Milenkovic is not yet a ‘world class player’ he is someone that is showing great potential, and would be a massive improvement on the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof.
He could be a great buy if United manage to pull off a deal.
