Manchester United ‘playing to the gallery’ with possible £72 million summer arrival

Simon Jordan has accused Manchester United of ‘playing to the gallery’ by pursuing Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have told Borussia Dortmund they are willing to pay approximately £72.8million (€85m) plus add-ons for Jadon Sancho, and it is expected that they will finally secure a transfer deal after the European Championships.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes this would be ‘decent business’ for Man United but questioned whether signing another winger is necessary for them from a coaching standpoint.

“If you compare and contrast it to a year ago, you could argue it’s good business because Manchester United have achieved a 30 per cent discount,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“A player like Jadon Sancho will have a resale value, will have an economic value in five years time and Man United will be able to control the destiny and get their money back if he’s half decent, which he will be.

“Without trying to get into the coaching side of things too much, I’m curious to see why Manchester United are prioritising signing Jadon Sancho when they’ve got Mason Greenwood, who I’m a particular lover of because he’s an outstanding player and would’ve been a fundamental success at the Euros if he hadn’t been injured, in their ranks.

“It’s United’s owners playing to the gallery. Obviously the manager wants him but you look at it and think ‘is this a priority?’ Wouldn’t a centre-forward be a more compelling proposition to Manchester United than another winger?’

“It’s probably decent value in a market place where you know he’s at an age where he’ll get better, you know you’ll get resale on him and you ultimately know he’s going to be a decent player.

“Good business or bad business, it falls into the territory of Manchester United doing things the way Manchester United want to do things. A player like Jadon Sancho being got for 30 per cent less than Dortmund told us last year… it’s decent business.”
