‘He’s what Manchester United need in this team’ as legend Scholes has message for £100 million World Cup winner
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs Paul Pogba to rediscover his form for the club.
Pogba has been instrumental for Solskjaer in his quest to reach the Champions League final and get back into that coveted top-four spot and Champions League football next season, but over the past few weeks the French world cup winner has looked off as his performance levels have dipped.
Transfer speculation has surrounded Pogba over the past weeks and he has done nothing to dampen all the speculation by suggesting that he would be open to a big money move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, to link-up with French icon Zinedine Zidane.
The France international scored nine goals in Solskjaer’s first 12 games in charge in all competitions, but he has only one goal in his last nine outings and Scholes says Pogba needs to get back to the form early in Solskjaer’s reign.
“I want to see the Paul Pogba that started when Ole came in,” Scholes said.
“His first six or seven games, I’ll stretch that to 10, 11 games.
“The quality of him, the assists, the goals he scored were fantastic. It just seems like the last few weeks have been a bit of a struggle for him.
“He seems to be slipping into his old ways a little bit. “Taking too many touches on the ball, not passing and he needs to get back to it.
“We know what quality this player has, he’s such a powerful player. He can strike a ball, he can make a goal, he can score goals.
“He’s what we need, he’s what Manchester United need in this team, which is real quality.”
There is no doubt that Pogba has world class ability and is one of the best in the business, in his day. But since that transfer speculation has started about his future his performance levels have looked average at best, and he has reverted to the player that caused frustration for Jose Mourinho.
United need him to be on top of his game if they are to get through to the next round of the Champions League and get back into that top four spot, but if he cannot do it then they should seriously consider letting him leave at the end of the season.
