Solskjaer makes Pogba announcement, £142m man wanted Liverpool move, Man United to hold defender talks, Solskjaer on Sanchez exit talk

Here is a roundup of the latest Manchester United and Liverpool news from icfootballnews

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted Paul Pogba will stay at the club, despite late speculation with Real Madrid.

Pogba has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons since making his return back to Old Trafford just a few seasons ago and there has been constant speculation in the media about where he will end up this transfer window, with reports Madrid were keen on a deal.

But the English transfer deadline passed and it seemed that United fans would be seeing Pogba stay put for at least one more season, as a combination of Solskjaer wanting to keep hold of the midfielder and the right offer not arriving meaning that interest in the Frenchman was never firm.

However, over the past few days there has still been speculation that Madrid may make a final offer to try and prise him away from United with an offer in excess of £100 million, as Zinedine Zidane is a massive fan of the World Cup winner.

But Solskjaer has played down any such speculation and admitted that Pogba will indeed be staying at Old Trafford this summer, he told the Daily Express website: “For me, yeah, he’s going to stay. I’ve got absolutely no concerns on Paul.

“You always put question marks around Paul.

“I don’t think its odd, saying ‘I enjoy playing, I have fun with my team-mates, I enjoy what I’m doing , I love my job and enjoy the game’.

“Of course, that sentence with the question mark about him, there’s always question marks about Paul.

“There’s not one press conference that I’ve not answered a question about Paul Pogba, but 80 per cent of what he said was that he enjoyed that game and his time here.”

Reports have claimed Manchester United will offer Eric Bailly a new contract so they do not lose him on a free transfer, with Arsenal keen on a transfer deal.

Centre-back Bailly, 25, is currently injured and remains on the fringes at Old Trafford after struggling to settle since his £30million move from Villarreal in 2016.

And with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deling into the transfer kitty during the summer transfer window to acquire the services of Harry Maguire for £80 million, there is a feeling that Bailly will no longer be needed at Old Trafford.

And that has led to a lot of transfer speculation that Arsenal were interested during the summer window, with some reports suggesting that Unai Emery even make a cheeky offer to take him to the Emirates before completing a deal for David Luiz.

And with reports that he is out of contract at the end of the season, there has been some reports suggesting that Arsenal would reignite their interest and try to secure the defender on a free, with the premise of more game time in London.

However, The Sun claim United want him to stay to provide cover for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelöf and are looking to open talks immediately to secure the defenders signature.

Reports have claimed that Manchester United target Philippe Coutinho actually wanted a return to Liverpool before he sealed a shock move to Bayern Munich.

Sold for £142 million just a few seasons ago, Coutinho has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as reports emerged which suggested that Bayern no longer wanted him at the club, especially with the signing of Antoine Griezmann.

That led to a whole load of speculation that he could indeed make a sensational return back to the Premier League, with reports both United and Liverpool were interested in trying to acquire his services, with the Manchester club reportedly making a more firm approach.

But according to The Athletic, Coutinho’s representatives ‘made it clear’ to Liverpool that he would prefer a move back to Anfield, But Liverpool could not afford a deal for the Brazilian and opted to stay out of the chase for his services.

Jurgen Klopp is also said to have privately concluded that Coutinho would not dramatically improve his side, while he is also happy with the various attacking options he has in his squad.

‘It sounds a bit strange, but we could not afford it [to sign Coutinho], we have already spent the cash that we got for him,’ he told Goal.

‘We were reluctant to hand him over, but Barcelona forced us with money, so to speak.

‘The move makes sense for both sides. He’s a super player and a great boy. He is a world-class footballer who can change games in the right environment.’

Manchester United may be preparing to finally offload £350,000-per-week flop Alexis Sanchez, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is refusing to get drawn into any speculation.

Sanchez was supposed to be the big money signing that Jose Mourinho wanted to help his side challenge for that Premier League title, but a number of injuries and poor performances has seen the Chilean become one of the flops of the last few transfer windows.

And with the summer transfer window coming to a close, it seems that he is all set to end his nightmare stint at Old Trafford by making a return back to Italian football, as Inter Milan have reportedly agreed to take him off Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hands.

But despite all the speculation surrounding the future of the winger, Solskjaer has refused to be drawn into whether or not the former Arsenal star will be staying at the club or not.

“Let’s see what happens in the coming few weeks,” Solskjaer said.

“There are still a few weeks for international transfers to go through.

“At the moment, he’s our player.
