Fans will love this! Jose Mourinho sends Manchester United message over Maguire

Jose Mourinho has hailed Harry Maguire for his ‘rock solid’ performance in the 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

After months of speculation and talk about Maguire, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finally got his man towards the back-end of the transfer window in a deal that has smashed the transfer record for a defender, as United paid £80 million for the Englishman.

Many have doubted whether or not Maguire was worth such a big amount and many believe that he will not actually improve the back-line, but Maguire made more interceptions, tackles and blocks than any other player on the pitch and Mourinho believes his presence could be a regular game-changer for his team-mates.

He said: “You can be very dangerous in attack but if you feel that a mistake is around the corner it takes your confidence away and you don’t play as well. When you feel there is something that allows you to play you are much more confident.

“As I always said Lindelof can be a very good player. With Maguire it can be a very good partnership.”

Now it was only his first performances in a United shirt and he will face much more tests then a Chelsea side that are coming to grips under the guidance of Frank Lampard, but Maguire showed great quality on his debut for United and his performance must surely get many fans excited ahead of the new season.

The back-line was a real issues for United last season and if Maguire can help keep a few clean-sheets and install confidence at the back, then Solskjaer could be challenging for more than a top-four spot this season.

It was a great start for United and many will now look at this side and think, maybe we should be giving this side more of a chance, this side are more dangerous than we thought, this side could do something special.

Maguire made a great start to life as a red devil, not build on that Harry.
