Man United make offer for midfielder – Striker ‘READY TO JOIN’ United – Ten Hag sent £43M transfer message
Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news and gossip that we think you guys could have missed today –
It has been claimed that Manchester United have increased their bid to sign Benfica star Joao Neves this summer.
It is no secret in the media that Manchester United are in desperate need of adding some more quality to that squad over the summer window – with a whole host of top players linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Joao Neves is a player that the likes of Manchester United have been linked with in recent weeks – although his massive £100 million asking price may become an issue for some chasing clubs in the summer.
But according to Portuguese daily Corrieo da Manha, Manchester United have increased their bid to sign Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, and the reports claim that United have made an offer of £59 million to capture Neves from Benfica.
Despite their importance to the squad, Benfica’s vice-president, Luis Mendes recently acknowledged the inevitability of player sales, stating that Benfica must assess market opportunities and make prudent decisions to ensure the club’s financial stability and capacity for new investments.
“Any public limited sports company is obliged to sell players,” Mendes told O Jogo.
“If we look at it, 90% to 95% of European clubs sell players to balance their accounts. Even Real Madrid themselves had to do it last year. If we want to invest in training, in new players, we have to sell players.”
When asked specifically about Neves and Silva, Mendes said: “Benfica has to sell players. What you have to analyze at the right time is what the market offers players and then make a decision. That decision has not been made today.
‘But we are under pressure to sell because we have a capital situation that allows us to accumulate a loss, albeit a slight one.”
DE LIGT MESSAGE SENT –
Former Red Devils striker Teddy Sheringham has warned Manchester United about signing Matthijs De Ligt this summer.
The transfer window has been open for quite some time now and there has been alot of speculation about the potential signing of De Ligt from Bayern Munich – as the Germans are open to selling the Dutch star.
Manchester United have just lost Rafa Varane after he decided to leave the club – meaning that Erik Ten Hag wants to improve that back-line and it has been claimed on amny occasions that De Ligt is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
But Sheringham has warned United off a deal for the Dutch star citing De Ligt’s lack of Premier League experience, telling Poker Sites: ‘United need leaders on the field who are going to change the whole ethos of the club and how they approach their games.
‘There were a lot of times last season where I thought they were missing that in crucial moments, so they need to go out and sign that calibre of player.
‘I don’t know if Matthijs de Ligt would be a good addition to the Manchester United defence,” he said. I think United need some experience in their back line, ideally someone with Premier League experience
‘He’s obviously a very good player and we all remember him from his time at Ajax, but I don’t think he should be the number one priority at the moment for the club.’
One centre-back with Premier League experience that United are keen on is Jarrad Branthwaite but they have no intention of paying Everton’s £70m asking price.
‘Branthwaite is not in the England squad is he? If he was playing at EURO 2024 you could pay that much money but he’s not,’ Silvestre added.
‘He’s overpriced right now. Very good player. One for the future who could definitely be an option for United but at that price, no way the club should do that.’
ZIRKZEE READY TO JOIN –
Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee is ready to join Manchester United after holding direct talks with Erik ten Hag, according to reports in Italy.
Manchester United really struggled for goals last season and it almost cost Erik Ten Hag his job at Old Trafford – but that stunning FA Cup win kept him in his role as boss of the Red Devils.
Zirkzee scored 12 goals in all competitions last season and provided seven assists and his performances for the Italian giants has led to alot of speculation that a number of clubs are very interested in getting a transfer deal done.
Zirkzee who has a £34million release clause had been targeted by Italian giants AC Milan who were deemed the frontrunners to recruit the 23-year-old.
But according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the transfer has stalled with Milan amid hefty agent demands – And new reports from Italy suggest Manchester United are now the favourites to land Zirkzee but will have to wait until after Euro 2024 to finalise any deal.
Now – according to Corriere di Bologna, Zirkzee is now closing in on a move to Old Trafford, as United have reached an agreement over the commission payments but more crucially, Zirkzee is now convinced about a switch to United after speaking with Ten Hag about his potential role in the team

There has bene so much hype surrounding the young man and he could be a decent signing for the club – but Man United would not be signing a striker that has the ability to score 30 goals a season – not yet.
He will be signed for his potential if Manchester United actually get a deal done.
