Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta tells Solskjaer he has until July 7th to land striker for Manchester United at £98 million deal
Inter Milan are waiting to see if clubs will meet the £98m (€110m) release clause for Manchester United target Lautaro Martinez before it expires on July 7.
Despite the Coronavirus putting a hold to the Premier League season and despite the fact that the transfer window is still months away, there has been alot of speculation in the media about possible arrivals to Stamford Bridge, with a striker on the agenda.
It is no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to improve this side with some big time signings, and reports in the media have suggested he will indeed get the £200 million it will take to sign some top-class, big-time names players in the summer, with a striker on the list
Lautaro Martinez is a name that has been on the lips of many United fans this season, as the powerful striker has impressed over in Serie A with Inter and is surely destined for a move away from the Italian Leagues.
Barcelona are reportedly leading the chase to sign the striker in the summer, as he is the Spaniards top transfer target and they are seeking to sell a number of players to try and finance a transfer deal.
However, if they are unable or unwilling to meet the asking price of Martinez, then Manchester United could swoop in and steal him from under the noses of Barcelona.
Now Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta says they don’t want to sell the Argentina striker, who has scored 16 goals in 31 appearances this season, but admits the decision could be taken out of his hands if clubs match Martinez’s release clause.
Marotta said: “We want to strengthen the team structure of which Lautaro is an important element, young, very keen and from talent he is now becoming a true champion.
“This thanks to the work of [Antonio] Conte, of the club and himself. He has proven to have great football and professional skills. So much so as to recognise now that his path has not reached the peak yet and that he can still grow more with us.
“Inter does not want to sell, but to buy like big clubs do and we want to follow this line. There is a clause and it ends on July 7th”
