Mourinho opens up on £94 million Manchester United offer for Koulibaly
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho gave little away when quizzed over his reported £94million bid for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Napoli powerhouse has become one of the most dominant and powerful central defenders in the Italian League and has been constantly linked with United and Chelsea over the past 12 months.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to get the funds he needs to sort out his dodgy back-line, which has shipped almost as many goals as they did in the whole of last seasons Premier League run, in which they managed second thanks to their impressive defensive showings.
And reports in the media over the weekend suggested the special one had told the board to try and secure a January transfer deal for Koulibaly, with a massive £94 million offer reportedly left on the table.
But Mourinho made little attempt to deny that a bid had been made for the defender, but didn’t confirm a move was on the cards either. ‘I cannot answer to your question,’ Mourinho said on the Sky Sports website.
‘If is true, if is not true, I cannot answer to your question, maybe your question is the first one about the market and maybe the next press conference I have two more questions, and maybe the next press conference I have three more.
‘The only thing I can tell you is Koulibaly is a Napoli player. And I don’t speak about players from other clubs.’
Would United be the right move for Koulibaly?
If United manage to secure a transfer deal for Koulibaly in the January transfer window, it would be a fantastic buy from the club as the 27-year old is showing real quality for Napoli.
He would be the perfect partner for Eric Bailly and although he does not possess the ball-playing skills that most top level defenders usually have these days, he is powerful, dynamic and athletic enough to cope with most strikers.
However, to do a deal with Napoli takes months and they may have to pay more than the £94 million they have reportedly offered.
