Stunning Pogba claim made, Man United told to wrap up £350,000-a-week deal, Solskjaer sent £80m transfer message
Here is a roundup of the latest Manchester United news from icfootballnews.
Gary Neville is backing Paul Pogba to become the player of the year for Manchester United.
Pogba has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months, as all indications suggested that he would indeed be leaving the club, with the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus his most likely destination.
However, a firm offer never actually arrived for the Frenchman and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Pogba will not be leaving the club and will be a big part of the side over the next 12 months, as they seek to get back playing Champions League football.
Pogba missed a penalty in United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves amid all the speculation and been the subject of some intense abuse, but Neville still believes Pogba can be the Premier League’s stand-out player this season.
‘I think he could be the player of the year. That sounds like a bold statement,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘He has the potential to be the best player in this league. ‘He has the biggest personality in this league.
‘Manchester United’s season rests a lot on him depending on how well he plays.
‘I think he could be the player of the year, he is the one to watch for me. A lot of success for United depends on him and whether he can reach his real high standard.’
Lyon’s sporting director Juninho has warned the likes of Manchester United that former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele is not for sale.
United may have splashed the cash during the summer transfer window and improved a number of areas of the pitch, but with the loss of Romelu Lukaku, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer failed to dive into his transfer kitty and land a striker that could land 20-30 goals a season.
Solskjaer was heavily linked with a summer move for the very impressive Dembele, who has become one of the most sought after young strikers in the game, but a firm move failed to materialise as Lyon reportedly wanted far too much for a deal to take place.
Dembele has started the season in style, scoring three goals in two appearances, and that has once again led to speculation that United may try to make an offer during the January transfer window, or further down the line in next summers transfer window.
But Lyon chief Juninho warned that he will be staying with the French outfit, telling Foot Sur 7: ‘We are satisfied with the players we have.
‘We must now build collectively.
‘We do not need to sell. I would like everyone to stay with us. If Moussa Dembele was to leave it would do us a lot of harm.’
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been urged to sell Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez by former player Gary Neville.
Sanchez was supposed to be the big money signing that Jose Mourinho wanted to help his side challenge for that Premier League title, but a number of injuries and poor performances has seen the Chilean become one of the flops of the last few transfer windows.
And with the summer transfer window coming to a close, it seems that he is all set to end his nightmare stint at Old Trafford by making a return back to Italian football, as Inter Milan have reportedly agreed to take him off Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s hands.
While Neville had high hopes for Sanchez when he completed a move from Arsenal in January 2018, the former right-back has run out of patience and ordered United to get rid of the attacker.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, United legend Neville said: ‘You talk about Alexis Sanchez going over to Italy… and I welcomed him to the club because I thought he would be a forward who could play all across the line, he would score goals, he’s tenacious.
‘But he’s been a disaster. He’s been an absolute disaster. I have no idea what’s happened to Alexis Sanchez.
‘There must be two of them. The one we saw playing for Barcelona and Arsenal for five, six, seven, eight years. The one that’s turned up in Manchester… I have no idea what it is and I have so much respect for him in terms of what I saw.
‘We talked so well about him but they need to now get him out the club. [Romelu] Lukaku doesn’t want to be there… get him out the club. It’s a phased transition, this.’
