Tuchel opens up and tells Manchester United ‘he knew’ £200m target wanted to leave this summer
PSG coach Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he knew long-term Manchester United target Neymar wanted to leave the club before the Copa America.
Neymar is regarded as one of the finest talents in the game and has become a real superstar since his move from Barcelona to PSG, where he has struck up quite a partnership with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbapppe.
However, there has been some speculation in the media which have suggested that PSG are open to the idea of selling Neymar over the next few months, if clubs meet the £200 million asking price.
And the Red Devils have been linked with a big-money move for the wantaway PSG star, despite the many reports in the media suggesting that he could be heading back to Barcelona this summer.
Now Tuchel, speaking after his side’s 6-1 friendly win over German side Dynamo Dresden on Tuesday evening, revealed he knew as early as last month of the player’s wishes – even before he failed to report back for pre-season training.
“I am always disappointed when a player turns up late but it is clear between us, now it is between the club and Neymar,” Tuchel told RMC.
“I knew he wanted to leave before the Copa America but it is something between the club and player.
“I am the coach, he’s my player. If he is in the locker room, this is my player and I work with him.
“But I am ready for everything and have to adapt every day.”
It is believed that Neymar wants a return to Barcelona, with the Spaniards seemingly keen, but until a deal is signed, United still have a chance to get the Brazilian all signed up.
They need a superstar signing this summer that will send a real statement to the rest of the Premier League and although he would cost a fortune, Neymar would bring in some positive vibes to the Old Trafford side.
He could be a great signing for Solskjaer.
