Manchester United official! Deal done as Solskjaer opens up after signing contract
Manchester United have officially appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis after his tremendous start to life as boss.
After a terrible start to the new season, in which United were out the running for a Champions League spot and close to going out of the Champions League itself, United made the bold decision to sack former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and replace him with Solskjaer.
Solskjaer has won 14 of his 19 matches in charge, helping to propel United back into the race for a top-four finish, and the Norwegian also masterminded a memorable comeback in the Champions League last-16 tie against PSG when the Red Devils overturned a two-goal first-leg deficit to set up a quarter-final tie against Barcelona.
“From the first day I arrived, I felt at home at this special club,” Solskjaer told the club’s website.
“It was an honour to be a Manchester United player, and then to start my coaching career here. The last few months have been a fantastic experience and I want to thank all of the coaches, players and staff for the work we’ve done so far.
“This is the job that I always dreamed of doing and I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead the club long-term and hopefully deliver the continued success that our amazing fans deserve.”
Was it the right decision to appoint Solskjaer?
He may not have the experience as the top managers that have been linked with a move to United, but Solskjaer has brought back great football, a lively atmosphere and the identity of the club, something which was all lost under Mourinho.
So it was the right decision to hand him the permanent position, as the Red Devils legend deserves a chance to prove that he can lead the club back to the glory days.
